Things I Could Have Done Instead...

.... of beginning the first of my daily lunchtime walks, wherein I try and atone for the Hersheypalooza that was last evening:

  1. Taken my pollen-encrusted Passat to be hand washed and dried by 500 day laborers while I look on enjoying a popsicle at Washworks. (I love you WashWorks!)
  2. Gone to the grocery store at Mondawmin Mall to replenish the rapidly diminishing Diet Coke and Skinny Water stash. I begin to panic when my Diet Coke supply hits three or fewer cans. I actually enjoy going to the grocery store at Mondawmin Mall because I really am just about the only white person there. I like going to the Target, the new two-story (!) Forever 21, the Subway, and the DMW. Even more than I like going to these places, I like telling people that I like going to these places, so that I can lord my city-cred over them when they gasp in horror, “You actually GO to Mondawmin Mall?” Hells yeah, I go. And I enjoy it. It is, hands down, the nicest Target I have ever seen. And it is five minutes from my office. Plus, with a booty like mine, I fit in just fine.
  3. Hit the Wine Source in Hampden in preparation for the Tyler’s Champagne/Laser Tag/Duct Tape Sless Labor Day Extravaganza on Sunday. Because it is never too early to begin stocking up on alcohol. The Wine Source in Hampden is, quite possibly, the most perfect store ever. They have a wonderful wine collection, an extensive and reasonably priced beer section that is perfectly balanced between American microbrews and Belgian yumminess.
  4. Actually had a conversation with my coworkers, because for some reason these past few weeks, I have had entire days where I don’t say a word to people around me. Or even to myself out loud. It is not personal; I am just in a work-related funk and am not enjoying being here so much. As you all know, this happens to me on occasion. I usually snap out of it when faced with a new project or an ungodly deadline that gets my adrenaline rushing.
  5. Continued my day of complete non-productivity by continuing to browse the internets, the facebooks, and the twitters.

Alas, as I want to keep my job, and I would like to minimize the hiney that makes me totally comfortable at Mondawmin Mall, I decided that TODAY begins my daily lunch time strolls through Bolton Hill. I usually begin these earlier in the spring each year, but since we’ve had a completely shitty spring up till now, I haven’t been inspired to get outside and enjoy the beauty of the neighborhood I am fortunate enough to work in.

The lunchtime walk really is a great thing for me, both mentally and physically, because just a little 20 minute jaunt around the hood really can help my fitness routine and getting away from the cancerous glow of fluorescence and LCD screens makes Denny a much happier, more productive worker bee. This is good for RK&K as well.
