We dropped Rusty off this morning at the Vet to get neutered. This involves an overnight stay, and we can pick him up at 11 am tomorrow. Ryan is a little – okay a lot – sad. Rusty is Ryan’s work buddy, spending the day snoozing at his feet while Ryan works in his office. I can imagine his feet will be cold today.
(this is a typical work day for Ryan: Computer, Bass, Dog)
In addition to a little snip-snip, Russ is also going to get his umbilical hernia removed. Avid readers (ha!) of this blog may recall that Rusty has a little bit of fatty tissue sticking through his umbilical wall, usually the result of the mother over-cleaning her newborn pups, causing a tear. It’s not dangerous in any way at all; Russ just has a bit of an outie on his belly that they are going to cut off while he’s under anesthesia.
Rusty may come home with a cone if he licks at his stitches. I’m sure the Cat will make lots of fun of him. We probably all will. He is not the most graceful animal on a good day (takes after me), but with a big plastic cone on his head? I start laughing just thinking about it.
Falls Road keeps them at the hospital overnight after neutering just to make sure there are no complications. It will be a quiet house this evening. Ryan told me this morning that “he had to get out of the house tonight,” so we are going to hang out with my friend Brie, who is guest bartending to raise money for breast cancer research at a little bar in Federal Hill. We can drown our loneliness in alcohol and torture the bartender. A good night will be had by all, although it will be a little cold in bed tonight. I’m already used to falling asleep with the cat on top of me and the dog next to me, subtly trying to take over my pillow. He’s a cunning little stinker; he shoves his butt against my face until I’m on the very edge of the bed. And then I put him in the crate. Awww, now I miss him, too!
I’ll post some post-op pics tomorrow.
