So, I’ve become newly obsessed with this blog called dooce.com, written by a girl who is the same age as me (I am not now, nor will I ever be a woman) . Her blog deals with her daily life, dogs, house, kids, etc., in laugh-out-loud and poignant ways. I just read her book, “It Sucked and Then I Cried”, dealing with her journey through pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum depression. It has set off a yearning in my soul. No, not the tick tock of the biological clock and the pitter patter of little feet. Pshaw! Rather, it has kicked that napping career discontent in the hiney and awoken the monster, and has me dreaming of some how, some way, finding some more creative ways to spend my day, away from the cubicle environment. I want MY own blog with millions of readers – but as Brandon says, I cannot even keep this outpost updated regularly. But if I had a really awesome Canon camera, I could take far less terrible pictures of Sprucey, pictures that don’t show a blur of motion and nonsense, and would be much more diligent about posting to the interwebs. But I’ve been pricing them, and I’m just not in the market to spend a grand on a camera.
I don’t do well with discontent, but I’m trying to keep it at bay, and I realize that I am very fortunate to have a well-paying job with oodles of security in this economy. And for the most part, I do like my job, I DO get to be creative (as much as you can possibly be creative and still be an engineer), I get to make pretty pictures and maps and try to create products that are flashy and informative and easily digestible to the public. BUT – I can’t do it in my pajamas with my dog at my feet..... and I miss that little farter.
So tonight, I am going to take my terrible camera and try to get so photos of Brucey the Water Dog discovering his innate talent – flopping belly first into streams and mud puddles. And I will post them here tomorrow. He loves it, and it is pure enjoyment to watch him try and take bites out of the little waterfalls in Western Run. The water is probably terrible for him, filled with garbage and raw sewage, but my dog eats cat poop, so I think he’s probably okay.
