The Finnerins are about to become dog owners

ummmm. okay. So Ryan suggested that I start a blog, he thinks I need a hobby, an obsession, something to distract me from his obsessions.  However, the problem with his plan is that HE is on the computer for hours on end, therefore I will not be able to type for hours on end.  But anyway, I'll try being bloggorific and see how it goes.

On Saturday, August 23rd, at 1:30 we are getting a puppy.  He is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retreiver, currently unnamed Dark Green Boy.  We're purchasing him from Tartan Tollers Kennel in Tabernacle, New Jersey.  Bob and Joan Doyle, the owners, are relatively new at breeding, but so far I have been super impressed with everything about them.

We met Bob and Joan and their dogs Dolly and Annie almost a year ago at a dog show.  They were so nice and the dogs so well-behaved.  We decided to wait for them to breed their next litter.  So we waited and waited. The litter of seven puppies (henceforth  to be called "nuppies") were born June 28th.  Five girls and two boys.

Once the puppies were born I got really excited.  Bob and Joan provided updates and weekly pictures of the nuppies along with a "puppycam", so that we could actually watch the puppies grow and get personalities.  In addition, it allowed us to see the fantastic level of care the nuppies were receiving.

We went to Tabernacle on July 24th to actually meet the nups and chat with Bob and Joan about our goals and expectations for a dog.  We knew we wanted a male, and early on, were taken with Dark Green Boy.  He's handsome and laid back, preferring to sit and take in the situation before diving in to play with his siblings.

Here is a picture of Dark Greenie at 5 weeks old:

Here he is at 6 weeks:

He will be one day shy of eight weeks old when we bring him home and introduce him to life in Baltimore and the fluffster.  More on that in future posts, outside is calling....
